Review

Intro

Over the years Central Florida has been working to develop more biking trails in the area. If you live in East Orlando near the University of Central Florida's main campus, you may be surprised to find out that there is a great trail right next to you. Located between the Alafaya Trail and Forsyth Road, the Little Econ Greenway Trail offers 7.4 miles of trail worth exploring.

What Makes It Great

The Little Econ Greenway Trail takes you along a stretch of river as you make your way through East Orlando. It’s easy to forget that you are basically running parallel to Colonial Drive. Along the way you’ll pass areas with places to fish, picnic tables to relax, bike racks, restrooms and water fountains, and basically everything you could need on a ride or run.

The trail snakes around the area and takes you over two wooden bridges. The changes in direction and terrain add excitement to the route. One of the wooden bridges will take you under an overpass. This shaded spot can be a great place to take a breather out from under the hot sun.

The trail is wide and paved with only a few slight climbs. Because of this, the route can really be as challenging as you want it to be. Want an easy workout? Take your time and enjoy the scenery. Want it to be a little tougher? Pick up the pace and get through the 7.4 miles (14.8 miles if you do an out and back) as quickly as you can.

As with any outdoor activity in Central Florida you will want to make sure you check the weather forecast before heading out. There are few areas along the trail with shelter, so a sudden rain storm will leave you stuck. Make sure to bring water bottles and refill them often at the water fountains.

Who is Going to Love It

People of all ages will enjoy the Little Econ Greenway. Families can get in some great exercise while having fun. If you have small children they will enjoy the 3 playgrounds located along the trail. If you’re riding or running the trail solo, you’ll be able to enjoy a relaxing day along the water.

Directions, Parking, & Regulations

There are 3 parking areas located along the trail. The main parking lot can be found at Jay Blanchard Park off of Rouse Road. The other two parking areas can be found off of Colonial Drive and Harrell Road. In addition to parking, you’ll have access to water and restrooms along the trail. Be sure to refer to the trail map to plan your ride.
