The Perkiomen Trail is a 19 mile section of trail that starts at the end of the Schuylkill River Trail near Valley Forge and ends in Green Lane Park. Riding along old railroad beds and traversing through several parks, the “Perk Trail” is one of the more scenic rail trails in the Philadelphia area. The trail consists of mostly crushed gravel with several paved sections throughout. The majority of the trail is very flat, with one noteworthy climb coming in near direction near Spring Mountain.

The trail is heavily wooded throughout offering very good wind and sun protection during the different seasons, as well as offering very scenic views.

If you are a road cyclist the Perkiomen Trail can be a great tool to help find those hidden back roads everyone loves. If you are a fair weather bike rider just looking to get out of the house the many parking lots are sure to make this a convenient trail.

The trail is an extremely popular destination for all types of activities. If it’s a sunny Saturday in the summer keep in mind that it’s very likely to see many people out enjoying the trail. Don’t let it stop you but expect to pass people and be passed on those beautiful days. If you are looking for a longer ride, the Perkiomen Trail connects right into the Schuylkill River Trails which runs directly into Philadelphia.
Directions, Parking, & Regulations
The Perkiomen Trail runs from Valley Forge to Green Lane with many parking lots conveniently places along the trail. If starting at either end is not convenient for you one of the favorite mid-way parking lots is the Central Perkiomen Valley Park.
This Park is located on Plank Rd off of Route 29. This large parking lot is ideal with creek access, playground, picnic tables, hiking, and even indoor bathroom facilities. As you ride the trail you may even notice a parking lot that is more convenient for your needs.
