Nockamixon State Park covers 5286 acres in Bucks County and its main feature is the 1450 acre Lake Nockamixon. This park offers great opportunities for hiking, trail running and mountain biking. On the east side of the park near the spillway into the Tohickon, there are 10 miles of mountain bike trails. More info on the mountain bike trails can be found at the Ride Nox website.
What Makes It Great
If you are searching for the perfect scenic, family friendly, mountain bike adventure, Lake Nockamixon is the spot. With windy shore line trails heading south, and more rolling inland trails heading north, you will have a smile on your face the entire time. Most of the trail is flowy and beginner friendly but just as you are getting comfortable with that be prepared for a technical section of “baby head” rocks. Do not fret as this is small section of the trail and once passed its back to the flow.
Besides the natural trails that caress the shoreline look forward to the occasional man-made feature. These are great completely optional situations to test your skill. Man-made “logovers” or “skinnies” are just some of the types of features you will encounter. Be cognizant of the weather, these trails are most fun under dry conditions and can be damaged easily when ridden wet.
Who is Going to Love It
This truly is a trail system built with everyone in mind. The trails at Lake Nockamixon are great for first timers or veteran mountain bikers. Beginners will love the rolling nature of the trails with very few difficult climbs, while advanced rider will love being able to pick up speed and hug the trees as you weave through the woods. Make it a ride with the family or a workout with your buddies, but make sure to check out these well-kept trails. Don’t forget to ride or drive over to the spillway, for an awesome photo opportunity.
Directions, Parking, & Regulations
This location is in the lot located at the crossing of Tower and Fink Rd. Unlike most trail systems that wind through the park with many opportunities for parking. The trails at Lake Nockamixon are in a condensed portion of the park with only one main parking lot.
This parking lot usually as an on-site porta-potty, with an obvious trail entrance. This is a large parking lot, but the popularity of these trails are growing rapidly, so expect other cars. Plan your ride accordingly, if you decide on a Saturday morning ride in the summer, expect a tight parking lot.
