Launch Bike Park

Launch Bike Park offers the closest lift access trails to Philadelphia. Spring-Mountain has been home to mountain bike trails for years, and even though some of the cross country trails still exist, most of the people riding Launch are doing so on “big bikes.” Rocks, jumps, berms, drops, Launch has it all in a fun grassroots package.

What Makes It Great

Launch Bike Park is the perfect place to hone in your downhill skills, or to try out lift access mountain biking for the first time. Until recently there was a thought that only true downhillers and gravity riders rode lifts but that mindset is changing. Working in a few days of downhill riding as cross country rider is a great way to improve your skills. These trails allow that, they are very challenging but the trails are well marked with different skill ratings and most big features are either roll able or have a go around. With the convenience of riding the lift you can find a trail that is at your level and get in the repetition and slowly improve your speed and skill. Just one day of lift access trail riding will make you a better rider.

Besides offering a great place to ride, Launch Bike Park is a place to compete. Stay in touch with the local race calendars and you are sure to see various races taking place at Launch. If you still have doubt that this is something you are ready for, check it out mid-week. Pedal to the top and ride or walk some of the trails without the pressure of purchasing a lift ticket. Worst case you’re sure to enjoy some of the cross country trails that start near the upper parking lot and run clockwise up the mountain. If that still seems like too much the Perkiomen Trail runs conveniently right next to the lower parking lot.

Who is Going to Love It

These trails are challenging, but that’s how downhillers like it. If you are gravity rider in the Philadelphia area make Launch a priority. Besides good riding, the small town mountain vibe means it’s the perfect place to meet other riders. It’s recommended that anyone who comes from a cross country background be an intermediate to advance rider, and very comfortable with riding technical trails. Launch may not be the perfect place for a family outing with beginner riders, but if you’re ok with splitting up, you can incorporate the Perkiomen Trail to get the whole family outside.

Directions, Parking, & Regulations

If you are looking for directions keep in mind that Launch Bike Park is the summer name, map directions are more likely to be found under the winter name of Spring Mountain Ski Resort. There are two main parking lots for the resort, but the lower lot along the same road is where the lifts are turned on for riding.

The lots are both located on conveniently named Spring Mount Rd. With the lower lot located at the intersection of Spring Mount Rd and Clemmons Mill Rd. Check out the Launch Bike Park Website for information on hours and opening as well as fees associated with lift riding during the open months.
