Betzwood Trail is a 6 mile out and back single track trail that runs along the Schuylkill River and is within Valley Forge's Park Boundaries. The trails are marked every mile and are well kept. The main trail is relatively flat with small rolling hills. There are also trails that branch off the main trail that are not marked and can be difficult. Running through the woods and along the Schuylkill is peaceful. It is an awesome section of single track in Valley Forge that is not difficult. Makes for a great run whenever you visit.
What Makes It Great
The best part about Betzwood Trail is that it is single track that is flat. It gives you the feeling that you are close to the trees and that they are going to hit you while you run yet the trail is flat. There is no need to worry about hill. There is however rock sections and exposed roots which gives you the true feeling of trail running.
Also, the trail is marked every mile which is nice for someone who does not necessarily want to run the entire six miles of the main trail. The trail is shaded which makes it a great place to run in the hot summer days. It is also close to the Schuylkill River so after you are done running you can use the river as an ice bath.
Another awesome feature of this trail is that from the main trail there are tons of spin offs making it easy for people to create their own run and add miles to their run. Betzwood has a lot to offer for runners and it is a great place to run on the weekends. It will be heavily crowded when the weather gets nicer so plan accordingly.
Who is Going to Love It
The people that are going to love it are trail runners, people looking for a nice place to do a tempo run or people looking to get off the SRT. The exposed roots and rock sections make it perfect for people looking to experience trail running. With it being flat and marked every mile it is awesome for tempo runs because you can get your mile splits. The SRT is close to the entrance of the Betzwood Trail so people who have been pounding on the pavement will like the change to dirt to save their legs. The diversity of the trail make it appealing to all sorts of runners.
