Drive just a few minutes northeast of Old Town Park City and you’ll find Round Valley: a winter wonderland that’s home to about 15 miles of groomed cross country ski trails. The valley also boasts an additional 40 miles of singletrack for skiers of all skill levels. The 700-acre open space is a genuine locals’ favorite—and for good reason. Along with skiers, you're likely to see dog walkers, joggers, snowshoers, and snow bikers recreating together on the Round Valley trail system. Yearly events such as the Round Valley Round Up Nordic Race and The Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog race are also held in Round Valley.
What Makes It Great
Round Valley’s proximity to Park City is unmatched: just a few miles from Old Town on flat, well-maintained roads. The area offers terrific terrain for winter enthusiasts on skis, wheels, and even on foot. Best of all, though, is the terrain. The soft, rolling hills cater to beginners and those with a penchant for high-speed cruising. Finding challenging terrain won’t be a problem, either, but beginners won’t have too much opportunity to get into real trouble.
This is a huge open space, loved by locals and easily accessible from downtown Park City. Round Valley is skiable at night, and ambitious, early morning skiers may get lucky with cougar or elk sightings. At 7,200 feet, the high point of Round Valley provides stunning 360-degree panoramas of the Wasatch Range, but will make for thinner air for those not used to it. Round Valley’s hills are generally low angle: perfect for cross-country skiers. Make no mistake, there’s plenty of challenging terrain for seasoned pros, but most skiers will spend their time in the valley concentrating on a solid cardio workout on the vast system of groomers.
Who is Going to Love It
Round Valley is for everyone. With confidence-inspiring terrain for every skill level, Round Valley is perfect for everyone from first-time cross-country skiers to seasoned pros and everyone in between. Directions, Parking, & Regulations
Parking is plentiful at Round Valley. Perhaps the most convenient place to park is the ice rink, which has a large parking lot just feet from the singletrack approach trail. If that’s full there’s plenty of convenient parking along the entrance road.
There are no parking or entrance fees. There are four other trailheads at Round Valley, but these are all located in neighborhoods, and while you’re welcome to try, parking for these areas is much more limited.
