This 37 mile ride up the Pacific Coast Highway is breathtakingly beautiful, to say the least. Views of the Pacific Ocean are amazing -- at times the road is level with the ocean, at others it will climb on the curves and cliffs that rise above the endless procession of waves that lap the shore.
What Makes It Great
It's important to note that this route can also be very dangerous; you are riding alongside of one of the busiest and windiest highways in the state, and there have been many cycling accidents and even fatalities that have been known to occur on this route. Despite the danger, cyclists continue to cruise this classic route from Mission Beach to Oceanside, California, because it really is worth the risk. It's a challenging yet ride, worth exploring for safe, experienced cyclists.
