Iron Mountain Summit Trail is a 6 mile round trip trail that is great for hiking or trail running. As a hike, it's a pretty moderate to easy trail, which is good for beginners and for family excursions.
What Makes It Great
It's a very popular route, so the trail is both well marked and well maintained. It starts off straight and eventually winds its way uphill into the wild flower-covered mountains. The scenery here is beautiful and will make you feel as though you are much farther than 30 miles from the city.
As a run, the same applies except that you're running, which turns a moderate hike into a pretty technical workout. Watch your footing and pace yourself as you climb. Enjoy the wonderful views from the top of Iron Mountain.
Who is Going to Love It
Iron Mountain is a great hike for anyone who loves beautiful views in a mountain setting. It's not difficult, so the terrain welcomes all those who are up for the 6 mile adventure. This is also a fun hike to take your pups on, though it can get hot in the summer -- and keep an eye out for local coyotes!
