Intro

The 929-acre William Heise County Park northeast of San Diego, in the Laguna Mountain Range. Sitting at 4,200 feet above sea level, it is one of the few San Diego County Parks that gets snow each year. There are trailer sites, cabins, tent sites, restrooms, and day use picnic areas. The park is full of beautiful oak and pine forests as well as mountain meadows, which make for beautiful photos.

What Makes It Great

The short, 1.25-mile Canyon Oak Trail starts in Area 1 and has a bit of elevation gain. It loops around through beautiful forests, and you may even see a mule deer or wild turkey along the way! For more mileage, take the 2.25-mile Desert View Trail. This trail has a couple scenic overlooks, and will loop back to the Canyon Oak Trail for you to finish out where you started.
