As the name says, the climbing here is right on the beach. This allows for a really unique climbing experience, but also brings with it a couple of issues. For instance, winds coming off the ocean can complicate your climb.
What Makes It Great
There are also some routes that are tide dependent, so check tide charts before you plan a visit. There are both sport climbing and bouldering routes, ranging from beginner to expert. Inspired by the ocean location and a collective sense of humor, classic sport routes have names like Sex Porpoises and Hot Tuna, while the boulder routes are called Nudist Side Jug Haul and Diagonal Ramp.
One big plus is that the whole area is free. There's also good climbing at the adjoining Stinson Beach, which is a larger public beach, with some decent bouldering. Parking is available just off the highway at an obvious pullout, and the approach is clearly marked. A word of warning: If you prefer not to climb with naked people walking by, this may not be for you. Mickey's is a well-known nudist beach. For more information, check out Mountain Project.
