Intro
The Palisades State Park located in Garretson, SD is a hidden gem on the eastern part of the state. The unique rock formations surrounding the park and the Split Rock Creek running through make for amazing views all year round. The park provides an opportunity for all ages to enjoy the outdoors. Whether it be rock climbing, hitting the trails, or taking a quick dip in the river, the Palisades offers it all.
What Makes It Great
In one word, everything. The Palisades provides an outdoor experience to the city slickers of Sioux Falls. The variety of trails, on each side of the creek, give an opportunity for everyone to enjoy this small, but beautiful park. The beauty of South Dakota truly shows in the Palisades because you can truly see the colors in every season. In spring and summer you experience the lush green vegetation and the native flowers, in fall the changing colors are vibrant yellows, oranges, and reds, and in winter the frost glistens off the trees and river.
Who is Going to Love It
Families of all ages will love the Palisades. It offers camping, fishing, small cabins for rent, and perfect picnic spots! It is a great spot for anyone living in South Dakota to get out and experience the outdoors, but it is definitely a destination spot for anyone planning a trip to our fair state.
Another group that would love this spot are beginner rock climbers starting out or experienced climbers to practice their technique. The Sioux quartzite gives climbers a unique climbing experience.
