Charleston can be a very romantic place. Whether you're going for the traditional dinner date at one of Charleston's many amazing restaurants or mixing things up with a bicycle ride, beach picnic, or sunset stroll, there are plenty of options for impressing your significant other. For all of you romantics out there, here are RootsRated's five recommendations for the most idyllic date locations in and around the Holy City.

1. Charleston Harbor

A ferry ride along the Charleston Harbor is the best way to catch a glimpse of the city from an extraordinary perspective. And this is actually a lot easier to do than it sounds, thanks to Charleston Harbor Tours. Imagine being surprised with a Sunday brunch cruise, or late afternoon dinner overlooking the battery. Sounds pretty nice, doesn't it? Well, that's because it is. Reserve your trip in the morning when it's cooler, or later in the evening. One thing is for sure, if you catch a golden hour sunset from the banks of the Ashley River, you're never going to forget it.

2. Carriage Tour

A carriage tour South of Broad may sound like a typical tourist attraction, and for the most part it is, but if you do it right you will be very satisfied with the trip, as will your significant other. Go for the two person carriage tour. It is more expensive, but typically the carriage driver caters to what you expect out of the trip, and you don't have to share your date with 10 other people. Not to mention traveling through one of the country's oldest neighborhoods via carriage is definitely one of the most romantic things you can do.

3. Dinner on the Pitt Street Bridge

Somehow a place as wonderful as the Pitt Street Bridge is never too crowded, which makes it all the better for you two lovebirds to pack a dinner, ride your bikes over to the Old Village of Mount Pleasant, and settle in to a sunset picnic over the marsh. This is one of Charleston's best kept secrets, and a perfect destination for an autumn date.

4. Morris Island Lighthouse Trail

You've heard rumors of how impressive the petrified trees of Folly Beach are, and the rumors are true, especially if you get to the beach around sundown. The lighthouse trail leads you to a breathtaking view of Morris Island, and one of the most amorous walks down a beach you can imagine. We can't make any promises, but more often than not, dolphins are literally yards away from you as they cruise the beach, and it is truly a sight to behold. Make sure you start your walk on a low tide though; it might sound romantic, but carrying your date across a flood tide can be pretty tiring....

5. The Grocery

The Grocery is the best restaurant in town for truly experiencing lowcountry cuisine, and it's absolutely one of the best spots to take a date. The Grocery sources the majority of its food from local farmers, butchers, and purveyors, so you know the food will be fresh and fulfilling. The restaurant is located downtown on King Street, which sets the mood all by itself. Our advice would be to park far away from the restaurant, walk up historic King Street, take in the old school sights and sounds of downtown, and arrive at the Grocery with your appetites ready to be satisfied with the very best. Oh, you'll more than likely enjoy each other's company too... but the food, that's where it's really at.
