Sandwiched between the Mississippi River to the West and the Appalachian Mountains to the East—and then panini-pressed by Kentucky in the North and Alabama, Mississippi, and Georgia to the South—Tennessee is a long, thin, horizontal strip of a state that finds itself at the heart of some of the Southeast's finest outdoor offerings. Unsurprisingly, it's also home to some rather spectacular settings and sites that, in perhaps the biggest understatement of the day, are quite picturesque. From the blue-tinted haze of the Smokies, to the waterfall-filled wonderland of the Cumberland Plateau, to the bucolic plains of West Tennessee, here are some images that will surely inspire you to get out and about in the Volunteer State.
