Deer Valley Resort has lift-served, single-track mountain biking during the summer months where mountain bikers from around the world go to ride its fantastic trail system. With nearly 70 miles of twisty terrain, bike trails are accessed via three chair lifts and there’s something for everyone, from the beginner to the expert.
Lifts at Deer Valley for mountain biking are Silver Lake Express at the base, Sterling Express at mid-mountain and Ruby Express at Empire Canyon. There are several trails that connect with the Park City network of single track, which provides access to 400 miles of trails. This helped designate Park City as the world’s first and only Gold-Level Ride Center by the International Mountain Biking Association (IMBA).
Mountain biking at Deer Valley amidst the aspen trees and surrounded by the beauty of Park City is spectacular in itself. Combine some good technical downhill, cross-country riding while soaking in the views, and taking on some of the obstacles and tricks along the trails makes for a great day of mountain biking. The man-made features on some of the trails add to the fun and most of them have easy ride-arounds. The resort has gotten stellar ratings for the mountain biking terrain with the variety and challenges that it offers.
Having been there on several occasions, one of the best times to go is right before they close in September as the leaves start changing colors. The colors are stunning with bright hues of orange, red and yellow. You may even catch a glance of some wildlife roaming around as you ride the chair lift up to the trails. There’s definitely something for everyone no matter what level of riding you’re at, and the end of the day usually comes way too soon. Always be aware of other riders and your surroundings as there are also hikers along the trails. If you plan on riding any of the double black diamond runs, be sure you’re confident enough in your riding to avoid injury, for the most part, or causing injury to others.
Mountain bike rentals are available and conveniently located at Snow Park Lodge , Silver Lake Lodge and the Yurt at Empire Canyon Lodge. There are also private and group lessons on mountain biking for children and adults available at Deer Valley. For rates and times, visit Deer Valley Bike School.
Helmets are required for all bikers, there is no smoking allowed, and dogs aren’t permitted on the mountain. Both full and single day passes are available.
