Craft breweries have exploded in popularity and success in Birmingham. Some of the most incredible beers have come from the Magic City, anything from a beautiful pale ale to a rich, seasonal stout. Each brewery has its own unique personality, embracing Birmingham residents’ enthusiasm for the outdoors, community and a good beer. So after your next outdoor adventure, consider relaxing at one of these four Birmingham breweries that are driving some impressive (and tasty) innovation.

All of Avondale Brewing’s beers are named after the folklore of Avondale, so each brew has as much character as the company itself. Located less than half a mile from 36-acre Avondale Park , Avondale Brewing is the perfect place to reward yourself after a nice run on the park’s paved trails.

In under ten minutes, you can stroll down the sidewalks of 41st Street South from Avondale Park and enjoy a pint at the Best Local Brewery in 2015, as voted by Birmingham Magazine. “An inviting taproom perfect for happy hour or a Saturday of football makes Avondale Brewing a solid pick for grabbing a local brew,” Birmingham magazine wrote. “But it’s the spacious back patio, complete with its own bar, that makes it a frequent hotspot in Birmingham’s most up-and-coming neighborhood.”

Located in a historic 1895 brick building built with a colorful past, Avondale Brewing, calling itself  a “small brewery with a big story,” is a great place to kick back and enjoy the evening with friends. Don’t be surprised to see various depictions of Miss Fancy throughout the taproom and patio. As a significant part of Avondale’s history, Miss Fancy was a circus elephant described as being a “drama queen” who performed only under the instruction of Mr. Todd, her beloved trainer.

2. Good People Brewing Company

Just around the corner from the lush greenspace of Railroad Park , Good People Brewing Company is a unique place with a taproom located inside their fully operating brewery. Top off your bicycle ride or trail run along smooth, paved pathways around a small lake with a nice brew from Good People. End the evening with a breathtaking sunset and see Birmingham’s city skyline cast in the pinks and purples of the sinking sun. Per BeerAdvocate , Good People features four of the highest rated beers in the South.

3. Cahaba Brewing Company

Located in the Pepper Place district, Cahaba Brewing Company is one of the best places to bring along some friends and stick around for the fun atmosphere and a nice brew to warm the belly on a cool night. As big fans of the great outdoors, Cahaba Brewing was a sponsor that helped fuel the Amateur Cyclocross and Mountain Bike Team at a recent event, where two-wheeling cyclists never had so much fun in the Alabama mud. Order an incredible brew and enjoy a little skee ball, ping pong and live music.

4. TrimTab Brewing Company

TrimTab , located in the Lakeview District, got its name from a tiny piece of equipment on ships and aircraft. No one usually notices the small rudder on the larger rudder, but it is what moves the larger rudder, and ultimately guides the ship. TrimTab may be a small brewery, but it has a big vision. “We each have the ability to make huge lasting impacts on the world, most notably with the small things in our reach,” according to the company’s mission statement. “Craft beer is our way to spread that idea and to support the people, organizations, and ideas that embody small sources of big change.” It should come as no surprise, then, that with every small sip of TrimTab Brewing’s beer is big flavor. A tasting room is available to rent for larger groups looking for a unique, artistic space.
