Rock/Creek will be hosting Paige Claassen at High Point Climbing & Fitness on October 24th to speak about Marmot's Lead Now Tour as a part of this years' RiverRocks festivities. The global tour is headlined by the 22 year old professional rock climber from Estes Park, Colorado. Claassen is an accomplished competition climber who has, despite her young age, become a front-runner in women's sport climbing with many impressive ascents to date. Some of her more notable sends being Just do it (5.14c) at Smith Rock in Oregon, and first female ascent of Grand Ol' Opry (5.14b+) in Colorado. Some of her competition accomplishments include National and Continental Championship wins.
Claassen is scheduled to do a presentation of photos and videos of the world-wide tour which has been designed to "Inspire people through rock climbing." Lead Now has been partnering with local charities for each month of the tour and has raised funds while also spreading awareness. The goal is to promote a life of adventure for people of all cultures as well to find a way of tackling specific social issues all over the world. The tour took Claassen to a different country or continent each month for nine months where she attempted climbing challenges as a way to draw attention to the charities. Just a few of the locations where the Lead Now Tour has helped raise awareness were South Africa, Russia, Italy, Japan, along with other places across the world.
The Lead Now event at High Point will also be coupled with a pint night to benefit the Southeastern Climbers' Coalition. It all starts a 6.30pm at High Point on 219 Broad Street. Five dollars will get you your first beer and pint glass to keep and any additional beers are $3 each. While out on the town for this great event, grab some grub at any of the nearby downtown restaurants, check out the Rock/Creek store at the Block, or get a few routes in while anticipating this great show.
