Within Utah's Wasatch Mountains and Heber Valley are endless recreation opportunities, beautiful scenery, and an abundance of wildlife. The region is frequented by outdoor enthusiasts of all kinds, including those who love all-terrain adventures. In fact, some of the best ATV trails in the state criss-cross the area giving those who love a solid all-terrain adventure countless ways to explore on two and four wheels. From Wasatch Mountain State Park to Mill Canyon to Heber Valley (often referred to as Utah's "Little Switzerland"), here's a guide to some of the area's best trails for all-terrain vehicles.
With 23,000 acres and thirty miles of trails, Wasatch Mountain State Park is one of only 18 parks in Utah that features trails for all-terrain vehicles. Welcoming riders of all skill levels year-round, the state park offers riders alpine terrain and trails of all technical levels. So whether you're seeking a joy ride or a technical challenge, you'll find your way in the Wasatch Mountains.
The Mill Canyon Complex offers visitors 75 miles of well-kept trails, including its longest route—a 50-mile loop. Elevations range from 5,200 to 9,640 feet and include tracks that range from easy to very difficult. The single-day trail systems are best used between late spring and fall, when the snow has melted and the weather is fair. With a well-established map of the trail system, Mill Canyon Complex greets its visitors with clear direction for their rides, and being within the state park, riders can expect to find amenities like campgrounds, water sources, and restrooms nearby.
Cummings Parkway is an intermediate 20-mile ride near Midvale, Utah, that takes riders to a crest of 8,000 feet and provides views of Heber City below and 11,750-foot Mt. Timpanogos in the distance. This is an incredibly beautiful and highly trafficked point-to-point route that is most frequented in the summer and fall months. For those who want to get off the beaten path a bit, there are also several side roads just off the mostly gravel route that are often used by off-road vehicles.
For those craving an ATV adventure who are traveling without their own off-road vehicles, several local outfitters can set you up with everything you'll need to ride the mountains like a professional.
Uinta Recreation offers two kind of rental services. For those who simply want to ride with the least amount of extra effort, you can rent the equipment and Uinta will transport you to the trailhead. If you have the capability of towing the equipment yourself, you can rent a trailer and ATV and head to whichever trail you'd like to ride. Adventure Haus is another local outfitter who can provide non-guided ATV rentals at the base of the Wasatch Mountains. Both outfitters also offer trail and equipment education so you can safely hit the trails with safety and trail knowledge top of mind.
