The Columbia River Gorge is famous for many things, not the least of which is wind. The same set of geological features that give this National Scenic Area its beauty, are the same attributes that produce a series of micro-climates. And on some days can turn the Gorge into one giant wind tunnel. What might seem like a nuisance to some is an opportunity for outdoor recreation to others.
In a classic case of lemons to lemonade, Hood River has become the Windsurfing Capital of the World. So it only makes sense that they would play host to the annual Gorge Windfest.
Put on by the Columbia Gorge Windsurfing Association, the Gorge Windfest takes place at the Hood River event site the weekend of June 28th and 29th. There will be unlimited windsurf and SUP demos, free pro clinics and beginner lessons, and raffles both days. There’s also a swap meet on Sunday and as always, plenty of food and drink.
The event costs $5 for CGWA members and $10 for non-members. Parking is $5. The event could still use the help of some additional volunteers, so if you want to help out or just want more information call 541-386-9225 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
