Review
For spectacular views of desert landscape, hiking to Wasson Peak in the Tucson Mountains is fantastic and only about 15 miles from the center of town. The well marked hike is 3.5 miles long and gains about 2500 feet in elevation. The hike to the highest point in the Tucson Mountains takes you through some of the most beautiful desert landscape in Saguaro National Park. The best time to hike Wasson Peak is from late fall to early Spring. For something different, try hiking it on a full moon night! Always bring Plenty of water on any desert hike. Park in the world famous Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum parking lot. The trailhead is across the street. If you decide to trail run this hike, it can be done in 1.5 hours comfortably. A hiker would probably want to take 4 or more hours to soak up the views.
