For incredible views, along with a stunning workout, hiking the 5.5 mile Pontatoc Canyon Trail is a must. You may even see Gila Monsters. This hike is located in the Santa Catalina Mountains near downtown Tucson, Arizona. Most of this hike is in the Pusch Ridge Wilderness. Expect wash crossings and steep climbing and bring water, sunscreen, and at least some sort of energy bar. Park at the Richard McKee Finger Rock Trailhead (parking for the Pontatoc Ridge Trail, Pontatoc Canyon Trail and Finger Rock Trail). Take a right at the signed junction at the top of the hill (left for the Finger Rock Trail). After crossing Pontatoc Canyon for the first time (there are a number of wash crossing before crossing Pontatoc Canyon) the trail becomes steeper. Take a left at the signed junction (right for the Pontatoc Ridge Trail). The trail crosses the wash several more times and climbs steeply to a sign marking the official end of the trail.
