Lantern Hill is located on the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal land near the town of North Stonington, CT. It is the starting location of the Narragansett Trail which following the blue markers would lead you to Hopkinton, RI. Staying with the red blazes will keep you on the Reservation's property and the Lantern Hill Trails. Lantern Hill is best known for 2 things in the area, top rope rock climbing, and the spectacular view from the summit of the 490 foot hill. On a clear day you are able to see Long Island Sound and the Atlantic Ocean. You will also catch views of the Foxwoods Hotel and Casino.
The milky white quartz of Lantern Hill offers top rope climbers a few different routes. In general the routes range from 30-70 feet. Most climbers hike up to the summit of the hill, set their top rope lines, and then repel down.
